Highlands duplex wall & landscape
We recently started a project in the highlands area of Denver and were presented with the task of creating a landscape that would be functional, and still create an environment that our client could effectively use. This home is a duplex so we wanted to create something that would distinguish the two separate homes, yet not ruin the character of the complex. A retaining wall also needed to be built to address the slope of the front yard, and the erosion issues.
After the initial demo of the yard, we needed to sleeve under the sidewalk and run our irrigation lines for the sprinkler system. Once this was done, we were able to start building our wall.
In the backyard we built a beautiful stamped and colored concrete ashler patio & walkway to the garage out out to the alley. We also built a fence to replaced the dated chain-link fence and add a bit of privacy. The plant material selected in this landscape will soften the fence and give a bit of texture to the yard. Keeping a large grass area for the dog was key in the project, so we maximized the amount of backyard grass.

Stapleton bench/wall & landscape
Work started this week on a beautiful home in Stapleton. The clients wanted a larger patio with increased seating and a bit more privacy. We came up with a design and work started!
First up was the demolition. It was important that this was quickly and efficiently. While doing the demo, the slab ended up being much thicker and required a little extra muscle to remove.
Next came the forming and pouring of the patio. This part went rather quickly, however the forming of the bench and privacy wall took a bit longer. Rebar & wire mesh were used throughout for reinforcement.
The concrete pour for the bench/ wall was next. This had to be done very slowly to make sure all the concrete went into the forms correctly. After allowing the concrete to set, the forms were pulled and the finishing began. A smooth surface was used to the bench back and seat, while a texture similar to stucco will be applied to the outside of the wall.

After the bench was completed it was time to add our plant material. For this home we wanted to provide a screen for the home owner, but we still needed to make sure the trees and plants wouldn't out-grow the area.
Check back in the spring for more pictures and updates with this landscape!!

Arvada erosion control
We recently completed a job in Arvada that required quite a bit of erosion control. Native plants and grasses were used throughout the slop to help control the erosion. After the seed was broadcast, we used straw blankets to keep the seed in place.
A more formal planting area was designed around an existing pathway and fire pit area.
A drip system was used to keep everything water until the native plants establish themselves.

Backyard patio renovation
We were able to get started this week on a project in the Stapleton area doing a backyard patio renovation. The first part of this process was getting the demo of the existing cracked patio started.
After the Demo was done, we discovered the patio had cracked due to no base material being used. After compacting the area, we brought in road base and compacted it again to help ensure an long lasting patio.
The next step in the process was to get the patio formed out.
With the forms completed, we were ready to add our wire mesh and pour our slab.
Stamping and finishing.
With the concrete set, we started getting the soil ready from the plantings. Soil and organic material were added to ensure a nice planting area.
